New Canaan Police say they observed a motorist traveling northbound on South Avenue on Saturday, May 11 around 2:30 a.m. The vehicle allegedly swerved toward the police cruiser as it passed.

The vehicle then pulled into the Mobil Station, and police say they observed the driver sitting inside, hunched over in sleep.

Police say they were able to awaken the driver, identified as 28-year-old Pedro Cayetano of Port Chester. During interviewing, police say Cayetano displayed several signs of impairment.

Police also allegedly discovered a bag of marijuana in plain view within the vehicle.

Cayetano was asked to participate in a series of field sobriety tests, which police say he did not pass.

Cayetano was arrested and transported to headquarters for processing. He was charged with:

  • Illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs
  • Possession of <1/2 oz. of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, an infraction

Police say Cayetano refused to submit to a BAC test. He was released after posting $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, May 23.
